It has been suggested that this particular rug is a panj prayer rug, shown with the weaving of five mehrabs in the design. The tanks seen around the outer edge of the field play a subordinate part in the overall designs – the prominent feature being the vases, liken to the Shah Abbas design.
This is a well used rug which has some minor restorations to the pile. The general wear indicates a period of some domestic use, which probably accounts for its restoration seen in two places. Probably an early war rug. Overall an interesting rug, probably Taimani. Size 5ft. x 3ft. 2 inches.
